About the Author
Roberto Carfagni is a well-known teacher of Latin by the nature method, developed by Hans Ørberg, and has acquired a long experience in the spoken use and teaching of the language. He taught Latin literature in the Academy "Vivarium novum" (Rome) for four years, and has studied the pedagogical ideals of Italian Humanism. He is the author of the "Epitome historiae sacrae" and has recently founded the "Schola Latina" (www.scholalatina.org).

Very useful supplement

This is an exceptionally helpful supplement to Lingua Latina.

I was given a copy for evaluation, and here's what sets it apart:
- Layout similar to the actual text
- Helpful images used in the exercises
- Exercises that go beyond those given in the text: you'll be asked to construct sentences and use vocabulary in ways that either give extra practice for the exercises in the book, or often - and this is the key part - use words and phrases in new ways that the book exercises don't get to.

All in all, a very helpful workbook. No cons to think of - the one reviewer is correct to note that there is no answer key, which would be a helpful addition, but I found the author to be quite friendly by email, and I'm sure that the publisher would be of assistance for any specific questions.

Excellent addition to an exceptional series

This is an excellent text! The exercises are masterfully written to help the student think about the grammar, syntax and vocabulary from each chapter setting without being tedious or requiring the use of an intermediary language. Carfangi created an excellent addition to the Lingua Latina per se Illustrata series, which rivals even the work by the creator of the series, Hans Oerberg. I hope the series continues to grow.

Safe, effective, and efficient!

No longer a teenager? Too busy to exercise? With this book, there are no more excuses to prevent you from getting into shape! Only 30 minutes, every other day, using simple home equipment (a few dumbbells and a bench), will produce a firm, toned, and fit body! And with the proper emphasis on stretching, warm-ups, and correct technique, there is no way to injure or strain yourself, even if you have never exercised before and are no longer a teenager. Clear instructions and lots of practical advice make this book a winner, and I recommend it highly to women who want to look toned and trim without exhausting themselves or spending long hours in the gym. Lifelong fitness has never been simpler!

David Bies is and Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Adelaide's Department of Mechanical Engineering. He has previously worked as a senior consultant in industry.

Colin Hansen is a Professor and Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Adelaide and has also had a long career as a consultant. His two other books are on the topic of active noise control.

Advanced but thorough - a bible for the experienced acoustician

I have spent a number of years in the acoustics field and this book is the bible of industrial acoustics.

Having said that, this is not the "easiest" book to read and understand. It is aimed for those pursuing advanced studies in acoustics and acoustic control, with the assumption the reader has a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of math and physics.

The first few chapters in the book do give a brief introduction to sound (from a physics standpoint) and calculating sound levels for various sources. Anyone familiar with this information will recognize the information has not been significantly altered from Beranek's texts. Some information is given for current health & safety legislation but this is rather specific to the US. The initial chapters will not be adequate for someone new to the field of acoustics.

The "meat" of the book gives substantial treatment to noise control methods, noise in rooms, design of abatement equipment (both indoor and outdoor), industrial applications etc. however again the primary approach is from a mathematical/physics development. This does not mean one cannot immediately use the information effectively. The simple truth is noise abatement is not a "simple" field and the book doesn't attempt to "simplify" the complicated material.

The new edition of this book gives a good (if brief) description of the emerging field of active noise control. The primary limitation of this area is not the author's fault - there isn't enough practical data for active noise control at present.

One downfall of this book as a text is that very very few examples are provided for a student, and in the new version no chapter questions are included. For a student, I would recommend acquiring the 2nd edition of the text for the chapter questions.

Overally, an excellent resource for the experienced practioneer or advanced student.

Not for me. I found the title misleading.

I must have looked at this wrong. I thought it was going to be the exercises illustrated so it was such a complete waste of money for me that I returned it immediately. If the description had said illustrated reflections I might have been better prepared. As it was, big disappointment.

Ich kann dieses schöne Buch von Tiffany Sankary allen, die sich in irgendeiner Weise für Feldenkrais interessieren nur empfehlen. Es besteht fast nur aus Zitaten, die Tiffany Sankary den verschiedenen Schriften von Mosché Feldenkrais entnommen und mit eigenen kleinen Zeichnungen kombiniert hat. Diese künstlerisch-graphische Darstellung lädt zum Nachdenken, Weiterdenken, Neudenken, Wirkenlassen und natürlich zum Feldenkraispraktizieren ein. Das Buch ist in 25 Kapitel gegliedert, welche die Grundlagen der Feldenkrais-Methode auf einfache und doch nicht vereinfachende Weise beleuchten. Ein großes Kunststück, wenn man die Komplexität der Zusammenhänge bedenkt! Meiner Meinung nach gelingt es Tiffany Sankary, mit relativ wenigen, präzise gewählten Zitaten, den Kern von Moshé Feldenkrais Methode auf persönliche Weise klar hervortreten zu lassen und das in einer Weise, die auch einem erfahrenen Feldenkrais-Lehrer zu einer frischen Begegnung mit seiner Arbeit verhilft . Da das Buch (bisher?) nur auf Englisch existiert, sollte man natürlich des Englischen zumindest halbwegs mächtig sein, aber die Sprache ist trotz allem recht einfach und leicht zu verstehen.

A Must look, see, read, enjoy, kind of a book about the work of The late genius Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais.

For all those who have heard about this weird name "Feldenkrais" and who wondered what kind of a name "feldenchrist is, here comes Tiffany with a wonderful whimsical book telling you all you would like to know about Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais and the amazing method he developed . When asked, most practitioners/teachers of this method trip all over themselves in trying to explain/describe this method. Tiffany has distilled the essence of Dr. Feldenkrais' work in a marvelously clear, artistic, entertaining way - a way that draws one into this book with a sense of glee, and an urge to go out and look for the closest practitioner with whom to experience this astonishingly effective somatic method of self help.

Broad topic, uneven treatment, poorly illustrated

Doig notes in the Preface that he is undertaking the "daunting task" of synthesizing a "vast amount of fascinating material." Unfortunately, he seems to have been overwhelmed. The title of the book clearly states what it sets to be about, and the fact that there are only 196 pages of text should clue one in to the fact that the proposed subject has not come close to receiving a thorough treatment. The discussion of 3rd and 4th century church buildings and literature is sparse enough; by the time one gets to the Gothic period at the end of the book, he or she is presented with a discussion of only four churches (and their liturgical practices), three of them English. The discussion at this point is rather meticulously historical, when one wishes that Doig had instead given us some broad outline of what was going on in the entire rest of the world. Indeed the lack of a large scope is systematic; after the first five centuries or so, the focus of this book quite rapidly narrows down to Northern Europe, and eventually England itself. Such parochialism lends to an unsatisfying finish. Everywhere the contrast between detail and omission is surprising. For example, we learn the extraneous detail that Hervé was Treasurer of Saint-Martin between 1003-1014, and yet we hear nothing about liturgy or architecture in Russia.

Two other flaws condemn this book to relative mediocrity. First, Doig's title claims to synthesize liturgy and architecture, but these topics are not at all independent of theology and politics. Of course, Doig does take account of the theological and political developments, but not always very deeply. Arianism, for example, is decreed (with little explanation) to have barely affected architectural development. Likewise, little time is spent explaining the proposed influence of the Syriac church Qal'at Si'man on architecture in Gaul and the political and theological implications of such a connection. In contrast to these examples, some effort is spent explicating the development of the theology underpinning of the feast of Corpus Christi. Likewise, the personages of Constantine and Charlemagne receive extensive treatment. All in all, Doig seems only comfortable discussing most direct links of theology and politics with liturgy and architecture--and this gives a sense of liturgy and architecture as rather more disconnected than they really are.

Lastly, this book is maddeningly under illustrated, and those illustrations that are included are often of marginal quality. This might be a production issue; the book itself is printed on nice enough paper but little effort seems to have been spent on layout or design. Indeed, it seems that the page proofs were spit right out of Microsoft Word.

I have perhaps fallen into the trap of being too critical. The book is not bad; it is a highly readable, often quite compelling, analysis of the connection between liturgy and architecture for the first fourteen centuries or so of Christendom. Moreover, Doig synthesizes a great deal of more focused scholarly inquiry on the subject, which is certainly to be appreciated by the non-specialist. This is an informative book; its topography is just too uneven. Reading it is like hiking a mountain trail, always hoping for a sweeping vista around the next bend, but never seeing more than the trees and rocks close at hand.

Great read!!!!

The Transformer was an inspiring and motivating book to read. I found Kris to be real and informative of his struggles all while sharing his love and passion for the health of all people. He is set out to change the world in health and fitness and I have no doubt that he will do just that. I don't think there is a more caring person who truly wants you to be your best out there. I enjoyed reading all about his ups and downs and found myself both overjoyed and saddened while reading this book! Kris is amazing and I am excited for what he is bringing to the fitness industry with top notch products and a heart as big as the world :)
