If you want to buy or read only one book on vSphere 4, it is the only book you ever need.

The clarity of information provided, and the depth of technical level and details amaze me. At the same time, it is easy to follow and simple to read. It is absolutely delightful and enjoyable to read. I have compared with a few other books on vSphere with this book - It could be the best book in my opinion!

This textbook covers the basics of physiology excellently. Thetext itself is informative yet concise, the descriptions given areclear and it is very comprehensible. Suitable for peclinical years asa primary textbook and also useful for those wanting a quick reminderof the basics, anyone with a general interest in the subject will alsofind the book genuinely interesting and informative. Theillustrations/diagrams are clear, plentiful and complement and clarifythe text appropriately.
The book is divided into 15 chapters, eachone dealing with a specific "body system". The study aidsand self evaluation sections (a series of questions and answers) atthe end of each chapter highlight the key facts and are invaluable asaids to studying the subject. For those who want to extend theirknowledge further a suggested reading list also at the end of thechapter will prove very useful. The physiology of all the mainspecies is covered in great detail, with attention to avianphysiology, which is a major benefit since many general physiologytextbooks tend to overlook this aspect. The basic anatomy of thespecies is also reviewed when necessary, which again aids in theunderstanding of the topic(s) being discussed.
The book presentsinformation in an interesting and inspiring manner and with it's easyto understand text and informative illustrations it really is a mustfor everyone who wishes to learn about animal physiology.

Dr. Aleksandar Zecevic is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Santa Clara University, and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies. His research interests include graph theoretic decomposition algorithms, electric power systems, and the control of complex dynamic systems. Some of his most important results in these fields are summarized in his recent book: Control of Complex Systems: Structural Constraints and Uncertainty(Springer, 2010). Over the past 15 years, Dr. Zecevic has also done a considerable amount of work in the area of science and religion. His two latest books: Truth, Beauty, and the Limits of Knowledge: A Path from Science to Religion and The Unknowable and the Counterintuitive: The Surprising Insights of Modern Science are devoted to this topic.

Gentle and heart warming

This is the ninth instalment in Alexander McCall Smith's series about Isabel Dalhousie, editor of an ethics magazine and occasional sleuth. The last couple of books in the series were somewhat of a disappointment to me, but I enjoyed this one considerably more. Whilst the plot is as slim as ever - centering on Isabel's efforts to assist in the retrieval of a stolen painting - the book weaves its gentle charm over you as you read it. The "action" is interspersed with Isabel's musings on subjects as diverse as how to deal with rudeness in others, with whether we owe more to the people who live near us than people abroad and how to deal with conflict in marriages. I think what I like most about this series is the way it gets you thinking about the simple ways that you can live a more considerate life, about the importance of manners and kindness, without feeling that you are being preached to.

While many familiar characters make an appearance in the book - Grace has a falling out with Isabel and Eddie has romantic problems - others are barely mentioned, if at all. Cat is largely absent (hooray! no unsuitable boyfriends for once), as are Professors Dove and Lettuce. I was grateful for this, as it made the book feel less formulaic. I remain unconvinced by Isabel's relationships with Jamie and Charlie. Neither to me feel realistic, but at least her relationship with Jamie is made up of a little more this time round than just thinking about how lucky she is to have him.

I'm giving the book 3 stars because I liked, it but never found it terribly compelling and I suspect that in a week's time I'll be struggling to remember any of it. Having said that, I think that fans of the series will definitely enjoy it.

Another little gem.

I was so pleased that Alexander didn't axe the Dalhousie series after Isabel got married. I have found every book in the series a joy to read and love the way the author manages to weave his own beliefs through the characters without being long winded and pious. I guess I enjoy all his books because I subscribe to almost everything he has to say about life. If only the majority of the world were like minded.

a disappointment

This book was a disappointment. I usually like Alexander McCall Smith's work, but this one was hard to get through. The story is constantly derailed by Isabel's musings about just about everything but the plot. The main mystery of who stole the painting is never solved. The issue with Eddie and his girlfriend just disappears. And I can not understand Isabel's problem with Grace teaching her son mathematics. All in all a waste of time and money.

About the Author
A. J. Cronin was born in Scotland in 1896. In 1914 he entered the Faculty of Medicine at Glasgow University, but his studies were interrupted by war service as a surgeon sub-lieutenant in the Navy. He graduated in 1919, and was later appointed Medical Inspector of Mines. He practised medicine in London until ill-health made him return to literature, and he wrote many hugely successful novels, including the famous Dr Finlay series. He was married with three sons, and died in 1981.

Story from the 30s is still a Great Read

I picked up this book because it was mentioned in my great-grandmother's diary from 1941. Written in the 30s, it tells the tale of a young Scottish doctor in the 20s, as he goes from a small-town doctor in a rough situation to a well-paid London doctor with a fancy office.
The story's written with intelligence, as the doctor ponders various ways to deal with the bureaucracy he faces. He deals with incompetent doctors, old doctors that have no desire to learn new treatments, young doctors more concerned with money and prestige than patient care.
And, as he gets absorbed into the system, the doctor begins to be lured in by the money. He starts to prescribe the 'easy' solution to patients, even if it's not the right answer, so that they're happy and he gets more cash. He does finally realize, in the end, that working for the patients is more important than gaining lots of cash, but only after some hard lessons.
I have a few small complaints with the story. One is that the wife could have been a really interesting character, but she's a little flat. She is sad when he becomes money-hungry, and draws back, but that's it. She was a schoolteacher when he met her, and it's made clear that she's very intelligent. But still she just sort of goes along with him, making his meals, wishing things could be better, but far be it for her to actually help out. She tries to get his friends to see him one night to bring back his old ways, but when that fails, "ah well".
My other complaint is that he slides far too easy from a passionate patient-first attitude into a "cash is nice" mentality. But that was necessary for the plot to progress.
Definitely a great book to read to learn about life in the 20s to 40s, from the small towns of Wales to the busy streets of London. Interesting details about the damage that mines caused to the lungs of the mineworkers, and the ways that doctors worked with each other and treated their patients. A great read!
