About the Author
Ariel Lipson is Senior Physicist at BrightView Systems Ltd, Israel. He has contributed to three successful start-up companies in optics, which have influenced several of the topics discussed in this book.

Stephen G. Lipson is Professor of Physics and Electro-optics in the Physics Department of the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Israel. He holds the El-Op Chair of Electro-Optics at Technion where he has taught courses in optics both at elementary and advanced levels.

Henry Lipson was Professor of Physics at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, UK. He was a pioneer in the development of optical Fourier transform methods for solving problems in X-ray crystallography.

I was massively Disappointed in CURIOUS, I have purchased many of Lucia's 4 Bk stories and LOVED every one of them took a chance on this one and to my surprise I was so taken back as I read curious hoping her NON STOP thought process from her female character would Never end or shut up It was to this date the most frustrating read!

Nature's Best

I found this collection of poetry in the dusty corner of an old bookstore and was pleasantly surprised. Mary Oliver composes her poetry, conjuring nature at its best, both the human aspects of it and those moments of quiet audacity in the natural world that humanity can never touch. She examines how we relate to the animals around us, and in some of her "twelve moons," Oliver asks us to put ourselves in the place of singing frogs and a birthing black bear. At the same time, she recalls the suicide of a friend or her great-aunt which, along with the others, make for poems of ultimately biting truth.

A wonderful short collection

Like the other reviewer, I also found this book at a used book store. I was going through a phase reading a lot of poetry that used nature to explore human themes, and this book was a wonderful fit. The poems are free verse, some more structured than others, and steeped in natural imagery drawn from animals, the woods, water, and of course, the titular moons.

Some of my favorite poems include:

"At Blackwater Pond" which starts out "You know how it feels, / wanting to walk into / the rain and disappear - / wanting to feel your life / brighten and grow weightless / as a leaf in fall."

"Sleeping in the Forest" which starts with "I thought the earth / remembered me, she / took me back so tenderly, arranging / her dark skirts, her pockets / full of lichens and seeds..." and ends with "...By morning / I had vanished at least a dozen times / into something better."

"Beaver Moon - The Suicide of a Friend" which includes the lines "When somewhere life / breaks like a pane of glass" and "...you turn in your bed / to watch the moon rise, and once more / see what a small coin it is / against the darkness...".

I love the simple yet beautiful expression in these poems. Even though most are nominally about an aspect of the natural world, they still speak of human issues - of nostalgia, of the loss of a friend, of family relationships, and of the poet finding herself. I highly recommend this short collection.

Passionate author but book not terribly useful for someone looking for branding self-help

I definitely felt the author's passion for the topic but I ended up abandoning my reading after the first three chapters and flipping through the remainder to make sure it didn't change in presentation and objective. And I'm someone who reads a ton on self-help, success and marketing as a solo attorney. I thought the writing was choppy, the narrative thought process slow and I was having to work to understand the points the author was trying to make. It's not really a self-help branding book, more like the author's argument on the importance of branding. my cookbook

this is the same cookbook my mother had. I now have hers, butshe REALLY used it. So it isnt inthe greatest of shape. There are 5 of us kids, and I wanted all of us to have one, so I have ordered 5 of them. I wanted all of them to be 1949 editions, just like hers, and those are the ones I ordered, but , I only received 1.. 1949. The others are 1946, 1949, 1952, and 2-1956. They are the same books however. I'm very pleased.

This isn't a "Cookbook" per se. It's a Recipe Book and an absolute heritage of American cooking. My mother lost her mother to cancer in 1948, when she was just a little girl. At eight years of age, she had to learn how to cook for her father and sister from the 1945 version of this recipe book, the one her mother used before passing. My mother is a wonderful cook thanks in part to this treasure of recipes and advice that spans decades of experience, compiled from hundreds of down-home, honest-to-goodness American cooks that had to feed their families through the Great Depression and World War II. Anyone for Squirrel Stew or Mince Meat Cookies? How about something as fundamental as Standing Rib Roast or Chocolate Fudge? There is even an entire section on canning and preserving fruits, vegetables, jams, jellies, relishes and marmalades. This book is a bit of a reminiscence - and has a lot of great recipes!

Peter Gaa has helped global firms across many industries and government agencies improve their processes in the office and factory. He has led hundreds of kaizens using Shingo-style process mapping. He is a Master Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and a Lean Master. He has 34 years of experience conducting kaizens in pharmaceutical, chemical, plastics, banking, consumer products, software development, electronics, and automotive industries. He also improved military-type processes within the US Army and Navy in Kuwait, Afghanistan, and the United States of America. In past positions, Pete has led research, development, manufacturing, and quality departments in companies within the plastics, chemicals, and electronic industries in the United States of America and Japan. He has earned 18 US patents on new products and processes.

The World of Continuous Process Improvement is Shaken Up

This is a real how to book. It dramatically transforms value stream mapping for the better. Pete's method should be the standard used by all continuous process improvement experts. The book itself is a clear step by step approach that can make anyone an expert in short order.

Process Maps and Swimlanes for year with great success (or so I thought)

When Pete showed me this mapping method I was very skeptical. After all I had been mapping using Value Steam Maps, Process Maps and Swimlanes for year with great success (or so I thought). Then a need arose at a client to map a very complicated administrative process with many, many options for flow, huge rework and very long cycle times. Using what I had done before I may have been able to get there, but by using the method Pete describes, we found an amazing number of opportunities for improvement immediately as we mapped the process using the Shingo method. The fact that you get so much information and detail from this method makes it a remarkably rich method for understanding and improving any process. Now that I have used this method on hundreds of processes, it is my go to method to achieve dramatic improvement. Once the map is complete it is easy to understand by anyone and at the same time can handle the most complicated processes and help you pinpoint the specific areas to start working on improvement.

Structured, Simple method for removing waste and improving ANY process.

As an engineer I have been designing and analyzing processes for almost 30 years. I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Gaa and learning his methods and I have not found anything else that works as well on ALL processes (manufacturing, service, administration). I have found most service and administrative processes are not documented and have very little, if any data. The Shingo-Style Process Map will allow you to gather the intellectual capital from the subject matter experts and use the data gathered from them, and walking the Gemba, to make significant improvements to any process.

Substation structure Design

This book did not meet my expectations. The description of the book led me to believe that the different materials used in substation design would be described in detail and show calculations. This book came up short. Even the title suggests that there would be sizes and design guides on how to size structures.

Great Manual for Structural Engineers

This manual is a great little design guide. In addition to covering the design of substation structures, it provides a great deal of background information about structural standards and design approaches in general. Things like base plate bolt design and wind design equations are explained in a way that is missing in many other references. The authors of this guide take the time to provide a few hints about why things are done a certain way, and not merely telling you what to do. As any good engineer knows, knowing the "why" is critical to good judgement and understanding how to approach atypical conditions.
